Hugh “Babe” R. Thompson, 92, of Merom, passed away at 5:00AM Wednesday May 12, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Sullivan.
He was born in Washington, Indiana May 4, 1918, the son of Marion Thompson and Bess Sturgeon Thompson.
Babe was an entrepreneur of several trades, he owned and operated the Merom Ferry, owned Thompson Drug and Sundries, worked for several years at Pfizer, and was a member of the Merom Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, also his wife in 2000, Emma Irene Riggs Thompson, three brothers, Andy Thompson, Bruce Thompson, and Marion Thompson, four sisters, Florene Criss, Ruth Purdue, Catherine Dyson Trubac, and Melinda Clark.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Allen Thompson (Nancy)of Sebing, Fl., Bruce Wayne Thompson (Sandy)of Sullivan, David Dean Thompson (Jane) of Merom, three daughters, Linda Darlene McKinney (Dean) of Merom, Carolyn Jean Daugherty (Jimmy Dean) of Lakeland , Fl., and Myra Kay of Merom, twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren..
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Saturday May 15, 2010 at the New Hope Community Church in Merom. Friends may call at the Church from 11:00AM until the time of services Saturday. Interment in the Merom Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Banks and Brust Funeral Home.
