Dr. James Ruel Clark, 74, of Sullivan, passed away at 8:50 AM Saturday February 13, 2010 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born in Sullivan, Indiana January 25, 1936, the son of Ralph Clark and Dorris Knotts Clark. He married Carolyn A. Greene April 13, 1993 and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn A. Greene Clark, one son, Steven Clark of Bedford, IN., four daughters, Karen Hedrick (Brad) of Bloomington, IN., Betsy Clark of Seattle, Washington, Rebecca Ellen Clark, and Emily Elizabeth Clark both at home, one sister, Betty Clark Shroyer of Shelburn, one nephew, Richard Clark Shroyer of Cocoa, Fl., one niece, Lisa Taylor Shroyer of Shelburn, and two grandchildren, Charlie and Jack Hedrick.
Dr. James Clark graduated from Sullivan High School in 1954, was the class president, played football, ran track, and played the baritone in the band. He attended ISU from 1954- 1957 transferring into the School of Optometry at Indiana University, graduating in 1960. Became a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry in 1963.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1963 stationed at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, was a member of the Shelburn United Methodist Church, Sullivan American Legion Post #139 and served as a Trustee, and the Zorah Shrine.
Dr. Clark practiced in Bloomington, Indiana for many years, also practiced in Dade City, Fl., Louisville, Ky., Washington, and Vincennes, Indiana, and retired in 2005.
Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. Enjoyed hiking, canoeing, and fishing. Jim received his First Degree in Black Belt in 2006.
Funeral services will be at 10:30AM Thursday February 18, 2010 at Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Judi Purvis officiating. Interment in the Center Ridge Cemetery with Military graveside services by the Sullivan, Shelburn, and Hymera Legions and the Sullivan Co. VFW Post. Friends may call from 4:00PM until 8:00PM Wednesday.
